Who is ahead in the item number race?

Preity Zinta’s first EVER item number, Happening in Main Aur Mrs Khanna, is supposed to have been kept as a big surprise for her fans. But teasers of the song are out and tongues are wagging about how close it is to Aishwarya Rai’s stunning Kajra Re.

From the background to Preity’s costume, hairstyle and even dance moves, everything seems to have been copied. (Wonder how choreographer Farah Khan will react to this, since Kajra Re was conceptualised by rival Vaibhabi Merchant?!)

Preity and Ash were best friends until last year’s Unforgettable tour, which soured things between the two A-listers. Preity reportedly told her friends that Ash and the Bachchans grabbed all the limelight and treated her like a glorified extra on tour. Perhaps the bubbly Ms Zinta is now trying to prove that if Ash could re-invent herself with an item number, so could she.

Or is Preity simply trying to be one up on ex-friend-now-rival Rani Mukherji, whose svelte looks in Dil Bole Hadippa is the talk of town?
